GRTS (The Gambia Radio and Television Services), which was launched in 1995, transmits in the evenings.

With the advent of local satellite receivers – imported from Asia and can be bought in most of the electro-appliance warehouses – it is possible to receive several European, American and Arabic channels. Furthermore, CFAO, a French commercial company, distributes a decoder with a subscription card, which gives access to the set of 41 (mainly American and French) channels, provided by Canal +. Gam Cable and Premium TV offer also English and American channels by subscription.

In 2000, statistics estimated that the number of television sets throughout the entire country was only about 5000.
