.Birdwatching in the Gambia

The Gambia truly deserves its reputation as the birdwatcher’s paradise. The country’s outstanding variety of avifauna offers an exciting introduction to African Birdwatching and is also an ever popular destination for more experienced Birders, many of whom flock back year after year.

Sport and Entertainment
With a coastal stretch of more than 80 kilometres and numerous beautiful beaches The Gambia offers many opportunities for swimming and nautical sports. From Cape Point to Bijilo passing by Fajara, Kotu and Senegambia, several hotels and beach bars propose long benches and drinks. Beware of the jellyfish and the strong currents, the Atlantic Ocean can sometimes be rough; it is advisable not to swim when the red flag is on full mast.
At Denton Bridge you can catch a boat to take you through the river Gambia where you can see such things as mangrove swamps

The National Museum
Situated on the road driving into Banjul, it exhibits the historical artefacts of the Gambia and has a pictorial history from the colonial era to the present day..

ARCH 22
It is quite impossible to miss it when entering Banjul as you see it looming upon you at the decisive junction. It is a monument of 35 metres high which was erected to commemorate the take over by the Arm Forces by present president, Yahya Jammeh. Inside the monument is an exhibition hall where some cultural and historical artefacts are displayed. Right on the top, one can get a bird’s eye view of the capital

The Katchically Crocodile Pool

 It is a wide pool where about 50 crocodiles live. The most popular among the crocodiles is Charlie which allows being caressed! Unbelievable but true! The crocodiles are not dangerous. They do have a history as it is believed they are connected to an African religious cult that has disappeared some time in the history of the country. Today it is an attractive tourist site. A museum is being built just around the corner

The Bijilo Forest Park:
Situated around the Senegambia area, this park covers 51 hectares and monkeys are the host to those guests who brave it. One will also find more than forty varieties of trees.
 A wonderful and soothing walk to take!
